A New Year’s wish

And here we are, landed in 2016. It’s the last day of holiday for me and as I’m lying on the couch hearing Daddy sing bedtime songs to the kids upstairs I am searching my mind for a topic to write about.

This holiday went by in a flash and although it was hard work (it always is when you have small children and no nanny) I have truly enjoyed it. I did activities with the kids on most days but at the same time I also managed to have long lie ins in the morning.

We had a wonderful time with family over Christmas and a lovely New Year’s party at our house. The kids had their cousins for a sleep over and then they went over there for a sleep over too. It was the first time for them and they loved it.

The weather has not been cold even though we’ve had lots of rain. I seem to have had a cough and a cold for the whole of December but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the time off.

And now, here we are, at the beginning of a new year. As new year resolutions go I only thought of being healthier and living with more intention. I think my kids are already doing very well and I tend not to make many plans for their life. The important thing for me is for them to be happy.

As I reflected this weekend on what I could do better as a parent the PC acronym came to mind. Patience and Consistency. I already do quite well on the consistency side but I have a way to go on the patience. I lose my temper too quickly with the kids and this is definitely an area to work on.

The world we live in has such huge problems that sometimes I feel overwhelmed at the prospect of bringing up children into it. But then I’m reminded that our influence is limited and that we make the world a better place by making it better for those around us. I decided to read “The 5 love languages of children”. I read the original book a few years ago and I think it’s a good way to start the year focusing on loving my children in a way they will feel loved.

My wish for 2016 is for more peace, love, health and faith for all the people I know and the people they know, etc, etc.
