When I was 6 months pregnant with Miss A, my nanny announced that she was pregnant too. It was her first pregnancy and she was excited and scared at the same time.
You might thing this post has something to do with her baby, but it doesn’t 😉 My nanny decided that she wasn’t coming back after her maternity leave, and so I started a search for a new nanny.
Well, in truth it wasn’t much of a search – a friend of mine recommended someone and when she came for an interview, I immediately knew she was the one. She started in the beginning of December, and straight away we saw that we had made the right choice. Not only she is kind and positive with the kids, she is an aspiring chef, who loves to make food for us, always with a touch of glamour!
All of a sudden I was being spoiled with lovely healthy snacks, fantastic salads and gourmet meals. I was in heaven! Oh, the kids were too – she is their nanny after all 😉
At the end of January, nanny A was going home on her motorbike (yes, you heard me) and she had an accident. She was going over a green light and a car from the right came into her. She tried to swerve but the bike slid and fell down on top of her. But before that, she hit her knee bang on the car.
Fortunately she didn’t break anything, but she has a serious injury in her knee and will most likely need surgery.
Given that she’s only 21, lives with her Dad in a tiny 2nd floor flat with no lift, and her Dad works 6 days a week, I couldn’t let her just go home and be miserable there.
And so I brought another “bundle of joy” home. And I’ve been looking after her as best I can. Hospital appointments, chats with solicitors, police and insurance company, physiotherapy appointments, etc. Oh, and of course, I’m looking after 3 kids and a husband too.
In a way, it could have been worse. She could have broken a bone, and I might have been at work (I’m still on maternity leave), in which case I would have had to hire someone else.
And I really like my new nanny!! She’s like my nanny too. So I figure I must look after her really well so that she never wants to leave 😉
And this is how, all of a sudden, I became a Mother of 4!
