All I want for Mother’s Day… is a day off!

For all the joys of motherhood, there is nothing more annoying than seeing or hearing mothers that have it all under control!

Perfection is their middle name, and they do motherhood like their were born for it. It’s an innate talent and they are just playing to their strengths and getting better at it with every passing year.

And so, come Mother’s Day, we see these beautiful specimens of the human race demonstrating their beautiful ensemble on the internet, remind us, mere mortals, how far removed we are from that reality.

My own experience this year was to be awaken around 7am, which actually meant 6am (as let’s be honest, we were still all on winter time), because my excited bunch wanted to get breakfast ready for me.

This got served in bed at around 9,30am (not that I was sleeping with all their noise downstairs), completely cold, but presented beautifully and without any injuries to account for (or broken stuff, which happened a couple of years back and left me gutted as one of my precious crystal glasses ended up in the bin)…

But of course after such hard work, my little minions expected to be fed too. And so my mini-pampering time was over in a flash.

Motherhood is hard work. And if you’re working a full time job (a recent one at that where you’re trying hard to impress!) and your partner is away for an extended time (as mine currently is), then it’s doubly hard.

Just trying to get through the week by being on time and without casualties (i.e. massive tantrums) is a struggle!

So, come the weekend, all I think about is resting and doing nothing!

This Saturday however, the sun was shining and that’s such a rarity, that we had to make the most of it, so we spent the day out and we all went to the park.

So, being totally honest here, all I wanted for Mother’s Day was the day off, being able to goof around, rest, watch a movie, catch a nap, get takeout…

In the end, after that early rise, we did manage to have a relaxing day, and I even fitted a 20 minutes nap (irony intended!) in the afternoon! Yay!

Thanks kids for the effort! I wish I could still do the same for my Mom! Happy Mother’s Day!
